The original movie based on Robert Penn Warren's Pulitzer prize winning book deservedly won three Academy Awards. The move stars Broderick Crawford who won an Oscar as corrupt politician Willie Stark, Mercedes McCabridge who won as best supporting actress, and as best picture of 1949. Directed by Robert Rossen who directed such other great movies as "The Hustler" with Paul Newman.

version with Broderick Crawford and loved it. It’s in black and white, a medium that is used far too little. The effect of black and white is often much more dramatic for me than
color and should be used more. Broderick Crawford is most famous for me in his role as Chief Dan Mathews in the 1950s TV series “Highway Patrol.” I’m a little too young to
have seen it while initially aired, but I watched the reruns over and over again. It was a great show. Crawford was a tough cop who took no crap from anybody. His famous growled
“10-4? into the radio microphone still sends me into another dream of nostalgia. It seems I’ve been doing that a lot lately." Read the rest of my Review Stream Review
