I love Shakespeare. I've seen somewhere between one hundred and two hundred different live productions of his plays. Consequently I'm always interested in screen adaptations. Some I find lack so much as to be really bad Shakespeare and really bad plays. I'm pleased then when I find a movie that adapts Shakespeare and still works. "All Through the Night" does that. The movie is the retelling of "Othello" that play about mistrust, jealously and envy. . . .
The movie is not available for Region One DVD. Look for it on cable or at your local artsy cinema.
. . . "The 1962 movie “All Night Long” is one of the best adaptations of a Shakespeare play to a modern setting. Based on “Othello” Basil Dearen stages the play at a London flat where Rod (Roderigo), played by Richard Attenborourgh, hosts a party to celebrate the one year anniversary between Aurelius Rex (Othello) and Delia Lane (Desdemona). During the all-night party the entire Othello plot is enacted. The movie was filmed in black and white so there is a seamy, almost film noir aspect to the file that works well."
