NOTE: In my Review Stream Review I accidentally refer to Judy Holliday as Billie Holliday. Unfortunately, I am unable to make changes to a review once it has been published. The star of
"Born Yesterday" is Judy Holliday, who plays Billie Dawn.
“Born Yesterday” is a 1950 Columbia Pictures black and white production provides 103 minutes of great fun. Locations shots were filmed throughout Washington D.C. “Born
Yesterday” is, to quote the tagline, “a perfectly swell motion picture!” If you are one of those people who is hypersensitive to political correctness and insist on it
being applied retroactively to all history you won’t like “Born Yesterday”. The movie stars three great Hollywood Stars. Broderick Crawford plays Harry Brock, a junk
tycoon who has made more millions that he can count. Judy Holliday stars as Emma “Billie” Dawn, his fianc? of seven years and controller, in name only, of many of Brock’s
assets. William Holden plays Paul Verrall a reporter, writer, and idealist who is hired by Brock to smarten up his dumb blonde girlfriend who says embarrassing things when he entertains the
latest politician he has purchased. . . . .
. . . Brock is oblivious to the fact that he is much more course and just as ignorant as Billie. Throughout the movie Paul gives Billie books to read. He talks
with her about the meaning of the books and squires her through the many historic sites located in Washington D.C. By the movies end Billie has learned just enough to give Brock his
marching orders.
