For me, James Bond will always be Sean Connery, however the newest movie has promise. The movie is missing, not only the traditional Bond entourage of actors, but is sorely lacking any
stars except for Dame Judi Dench as "M." She is one of my favorite actors. From "84 Charing Cross Road,"one of my favorite movies where she played a minor role, to "The Last of the Blonde
Bombshells," to "Ladies in Lavender," and of course "As Time Goes By," I've loved watching her on bot the small and large screen. Martin Campbell directed the movie, he's not exactly a
household word but rumors are that he is in pre-production of Alfred Hitchcock's "The Birds," a movie I've long wanted to be to see remade with the better special effects of today. Let's
face it, as scary as Hitchock's "The Birds" was, the special effects were lacking. Campbell's use of special effects in "Casino Royal" was excellent, so let's hope he does a good job with
"The Birds." . . .
. . . "I went to see Casino Royale on New Year’s Day. I think it is the first Bond film I’ve seen at the movies since 1966. I was a little disappointed. I think this is for two
different reasons. My favorite James Bond was played by Sean Connery. He was witty, clever, and displayed an attitude indicating he knew just a little bit more than those he was involved
with and was slightly bemused by the whole thing. There was some gadgetry that was fun and different from other movies in the 1960s. However, although the gadgets helped move along the plot
they weren’t featured as if they were main characters. I loved Q and his arrangement with Bond and I loved Mrs. Moneypenney’s name and her older woman infatuation with James."
