The 1956 war movie about D-Day begins with the incredibly handsome lead actors Captain Brad Parker (Robert Taylor) and Lt. Colonel John Wynter (Richard Todd) standing on deck of a ship, while crossing the English Channel during the stormy crossing to land on D-Day. The movie spends most of its time in flashback filling in the love stories between Captain Brad Parker and Valerie Russell (played Dana Wynter) and the love story between Lt. Colonel John Wynter Valerie Russell, (also played by Dana Wynter). Yes, they are both in love with the same woman and it’s no wonder Dana Wynter is gorgeous and the star of many movies and television shows until 1993. She was also winner of the 1956 Golden Globe award for Most Promising Newcomer, an award she shared with Anita Ekberg. . . . .

. . . The movie is more a story about loneliness and love war can bring than it is about the violence of war. The three principles find themselves having to put their personal interests on the back burner in favor of the war effort. The combat action is limited, but the interpersonal action between Taylor and Wynter is extensive and romantic. During the movie Lt. Colonel Wynter discovers that Valerie has fallen in love with the married Captain Brad Parker. Although in love with Parker, she has her British “duty” to fulfill and leaves a party she attended with Parker to find him. Just before D-Day Valerie tells Parker that she has chosen Wynter.
