“The Enchanted Cottage” is an RKO movie, filmed in black and white and lasts 91 minutes. “The whole town WHISPERED about these two!” These two are Laura Pennington (Dorothy McGuire) and Oliver Bradford (Robert Young).
“The Enchanted Cottage” is the story of the ugly duckling. The enchanted cottage weaves a spell on married couples who stay there, increasing their love and making them see each other as they really are. Dorothy McGuire with makeup up to look homely and Robert Young with scars from his World War II plane crash see each other through lovers eyes and see the true, beautiful person. When viewed by others the scars are still there.

"The Enchanted Cottage" is not available on DVD however a VHS version is available.
I’m not really sure though, who the ugly duckling is or what the ugliness is. I think perhaps Robert Young is the ugly duckly who comes to realize what is important and what is beautiful. When the movie starts Robert Young arrives with his bride-to-be, Beatrice Alexander. She is a beautiful woman, he is a handsome man. They hardly notice Laura Pennington. Only after Bradford is scarred in the war and finds himself repulsive physically does he open himself up to the beauty of Laura Pennington.
