“Finding Never Land” 2004 movie is the charming story of J.M. Barrie’s writing of “Peter Pan.” The movie is in English, was filmed in color, and lasts 106 minutes. When the movie begins Barrie (Johnny Depp) is a well-known playwright who has suffered a setback with his most recent play. While walking through one of London’s parks he meets Sylvia Davis (Kate Winslet) and her children. There is an immediate connection. Throughout the summer Barrie meets with the children, plays with them, and becomes their friend. It is this summer that serves for the inspiration of “Peter Pan.” . . . .

Johnny Depp plays J.M. Barrie a playwright who is best remembered for “Peter Pan.” I’ve never been much of a fan of Depp, primarily because he often seems like such a pretty boy punk who tries too hard to be a bad boy, but I’ve come to believe he’s a pretty good actor. Unfortunately he often seems to take one of two roads I find disturbing: either he seems intent on milking commercial blockbusters such as his seemingly endless Pirates of the Caribbean series, or he plays roles that are edgy and show a lack of respect for all things not Johnny Depp such as “Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas.” When he plays serious roles though he’s very good. He is excellent and believable in “Finding Never Land”. Similarly in “Chocolat” and “The Ninth Gate” he showed considerable talent and skill as an actor.
